There are many things to consider when trying to decide how much you should spend on a new bike.
First consider how often you’ll use the bike – then consider how often you’d use the bike if you enjoy the experience!
Remember an appropriately sized and set-up outfit is more important than the price. Sure, quality components are vital but you wouldn’t endure a walk through Kings Park in $200 leather soled dress shoes – but the experience would be vastly different in $200 joggers! Likewise on a bike – that’s where our specially trained and experienced staff can help. They will explain in simple terms what suits your requirements, and why.
Hybrid Bikes
Typically a good quality recreational or "hybrid" bike will set you back $339 - $999. These offer the best compromise between a rugged mountain bike and an ultra fast road bike.
Hybrid bikes boast a comfortable saddle, relaxed riding position, a good gear range and reliable components. Whilst they share many design secrets with their tough mountain bike cousins, they are much lighter in their construction.
Hybrids "off road" ability is limited to firm unsealed tracks or grass due to tires aimed more a comfort and control than jumping and bouncing. They can be decked out for a variety of applications from casual 10km river rides to day trips taking all you need for a picnic and beyond.
Mountain Bikes
If a mountain bike is more your style, the choice is HUGE! Generally we would suggest you look at what you'll put the bike through then look at what suits.
Prices for a basic 24 speed MTB with front shocks and sturdy frame start at $399 and this unit will certainly take you off the beaten track, however look just a little further and you'll notice some BIG differences for little $$$’s!
Step up to the $749 - $999 bracket and you’ll see lighter components, more gears, top quality rubber, durable shocks and more. Look at $1449 - $1999 and your in MTB heaven. Top end gears, adjustable shocks, super light yet exceptionally strong frames and something that you’ll love to ride (and show off) for years to come.
Of coarse you can spend a whole lot more – Dual Suspension is a must have for those looking to explore the exhilarating world of Down Hill and other “extreme” adventures literally at Perth’s doorstep. We like the “Specialized” Epic range of Dual Suspension MTB. They come fitted with the best in shifting wizardry from Shimano and look a million bucks! the Epic range starts at just $3499 or only $38 per week interest free!
Elite Bikes
Aspirations of being the next Lance Armstrong but need the gear to get you there? We’ve got it all. Stocking the best from Bianchi, Specialized, Wilier, Giant and Orbea, we have something to make you fly!
If you are simply testing the water or on a budget, you can look at the Avanti range starting at $899. The Avanti Sprint will give you a taste of true road cycling with 27 speed Shimano gears and carbon forks for added comfort. The natural step up from here would be a lighter, possibly an all carbon frame, high grade group set (gears, brakes, rims etc) and performance rims. Expect to be paying $1449 for something special – still middle of the road – in road bike talk, but certainly a lightening quick and agile machine.
Should budget not be paramount, or you simply wish to be the talk of the local group ride for months to come, you may wish to test one of our elite Bianchi, Wilier, Orbea or Specialized models. Offering nothing less than the ultimate in riding finesse through perfectly engineered frames, world class shifting and supremely light wheels, the only issue is finding the geometry that suits your frame – yes they vary model to model and certainly brand to brand. At this end of the spectrum, there are no limits but use $6000 to $12000 as a generous guide.
Trailer Bikes
Got kids? Want to take them along for the ride without the threat of “mummy I don’t want to ride anymore!” here’s the answer – enter the trailer bike! A bike for the little ones that easily attaches to your seat post allowing little legs to take a rest and you to enjoy a peaceful trip!
Trailer bikes suit kiddies from the age of 4 to 7 and are simple to attach to most adult Hybrid or Mountain Bikes.
If your little one is just too little (10 months minimum and up 22kg’s), we carry a great range of child carriers from the best names in the industry. Offering safety and convenience, these seats feature harness type restraints and some even offer adjustable feet supports. They simply attach to your bike using a rack which can double as a carrier should you wish to use the bike to travel to work etc.
